Customs seize AK47s, ammunition; two persons arrested

A man and woman in their 30s have been arrested in connection with the discovery of illegal import of firearms into Trinidad & Tobago.

Comptroller of Customs Fitzroy John told local media officers found five firearms on Thursday morning that were brought into the country.

They included three AK-47 assault rifles, two 9mm submachine guns and a quantity of ammunition.

John said Customs officers were able to detect the illegal weapons anda ammunition because the department has systems in place to identify suspect consignments.
