Manmohan Singh to inaugurate 'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2012'

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the tenth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) on January 8 at Jaipur.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar, will be the Chief Guest in the 10th PBD. The convention is scheduled to be held at Jaipur from Saturday, January 7 to Monday January 9, 2012. More than 1300 delegates from 54 countries have registered for the event. 


Indian President Pratibha Patil will deliver the valedictory address on Monday and confer the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award to Persad-Bissessar and other awardees.

There are three pre-conference seminars:
  • Solar Energy-Investment and R&D
  • Social Entrepreneurship-Water
  • Health
The PBD Oration this year will be given by eminent economist and management expert Prof. Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

The PBD-2012 is being held in partnership with the Government of Rajasthan and the Confederation of Indian Industry is the institutional partner.

It will depict India’s rich culture in evening programmes being presented for the delegates. 

The first of these cultural program is on Saturday, hosted by the External Affairs Minister. The chief minister of Rajasthan will host sunday's program and the grand finale on Monday will be sponsored and hosted by the IndianMinister for Overseas Indian Affairs.
