Duke denounces unions as 'dinosaurs', calls planned protest appaling

Watson Duke called trade unions "dinosaurs" Wednesday as he criticised them for their plan to launch a protest on Friday.
The President of the Public Services Association (PSA) also challenged the Oilfield Workers' Trade Union to bring out the masses on Friday "instead of 200".

Duke suggested that the unions are hyprocritical in denouncing the state of emergency, which he noted was responsible for bring down crime. He said the government's accomplishments during the emergency including the seizure of guns, ammunition and drug busts.

"The PSA holds a different view from the dinosaur movement," Duke said, adding that the marching and protests are "appalling".

He said the PSA's executive won't be taking part in the march. However he claimed that some "dissident members" are being "corralled, coerced and manipulated" by (Ancel) Roget and the OWTU.

"I want to send a strong warning to Ancel Roget that the war is on. If it is a war you want, it's a war you going to get," he said.

Roget told local media Duke is part of the Government's public relations machinery.

"He is a non-issue, a non-entity and I wouldn't waste any time on him. He's just doing what he's already been paid for," Roget said.

Duke's trade union accepted the Government's five per cent offer in April after months of marching against it. Other unions have also taken the offer.
