TTUTA says principal 'afraid' to return to work at Tunapuna Hindu School

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) said on Wednesday the principal of the Tunapuna Hindu School didn't report for duty on Wednesday because of safety concerns.

In a media statement TTUTA claimed that Sita Gajadhasingh-Nanga has been exposed to verbal attacks by the president of the school's PTA. TTUTA said that is a violation of the agreement reached with stakeholders to end the impasse which led to the principal being locked out.

TTUTA said the statements have been made specifically on Radio Jaagrati in defiance of the agreement that prohibits personal attacks through any medium.

It said: "Nebulous, unsubstantiated allegations continue to be made against the Principal, some of which are being peddled for the first time."

The Association said the School's PTA President appears intent on compromising the ability of the principal to perform her duties by stating that he intends to to be at the school daily.

TTUTA said such statements create an atmosphere of fear and mistrust in which the principal cannot perform her duties.
