Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has turned down an invitation to attend a dinner hosted by one of Trinidad & Tobago's leading Muslim organisations - the Anjuman Sunnat ul Jamaat Association (ASJA).
The dinner is scheduled for Saturday in Charlieville.
ASJA’s first vice president, Haji Kamal Hosein, told local media his organisation is not offended by the Persad-Bissessar's decision in light of an alleged plot to assassinate her and three members of her Cabinet.
The ASJA official said Minister of Tertiary Education Fazal Karim will attend the dinner and deliver the feature address on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Hosein said ASJA is very concerned about the alleged plot, adding that it is "unfortunate" that two Muslim clerics are among 12 people arrested in connection with the threats to assassinate the PM and other top government leaders.
