PCA to moniitor police probe of Chagunas killings

The Police Service Complaints Authority (PCA) issued a statement Monday declaring that it will closely monitor the police investigation of the shooting in Chaguanas over the weekend that resulted in the deaths of three young people from Santa Cruz.

Police shot and killed Nkosi Borde, Nigel Eminess and Hayden Honore during a shootout and high-speed chase Saturday along the Uriah Butler Highway in Chaguanas. Three other men were injured are reported to be assisting police in their investigations.

Police said they were responded to reports of a robbery. However relatives of the victims and people who live in the community say they men were not armed.

The PCA statement pledged that the authority will be "rigorous and resolute" in the execution of its duties.

"The PCA, as it has done in the past, is in contact with the Commissioner of Police and has assumed at this stage, its role to monitor the investigation by the TTPS to ensure a fair, independent and thorough investigation of the matter.

"The Commissioner of Police has been instructed in accordance with the law, to ensure the Director of the PCA, Gillian Lucky, is kept informed of all developments in the investigation.

"The PCA is mindful that an open mind must be kept in the matter and that all relevant evidence must be unearthed in order to determine the circumstances in which the shootings occurred. The public is assured the PCA will be relevant, rigorous and resolute in the execution of its duties," the release added.
