The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is making efforts to provide truck borne water to thousands of customers in south and central Trinidad who are without a pip[e-borne supply because of a breakdown of the desalination plant operated by Desalcott.
The plant, which supplies 30 million gallons of water to WASA, was shut down on November 14. Desalcott promised to bring it back on stream with three days but has so far failed to do that.
WASA’s general manager of corporate communications, Ellen Lewis, sent out a media bulletin Wednesday stating that water tankers are providing a truck-borne supply to the hard-hit residents.
Lewis said added, “The delay has been inordinate and the impact of our customers wholly untenable.”

She added that WASA is now short by 30 million gallons of water daily and is now relying on pushing the Caroni Water Treatment plant to operate at its peak.
“This facility is the country’s largest single producer serving customers in north, central and south Trinidad,” Lewis said.
