No election date but Guyana's governing party launches election campiagn

Bharrat Jagdeo: Says he took Guyana from bankruptcy and made it the most vibrant economy in the Caribbean
There is still no official date for the national election in Guyana but the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) team launched its election campaign Sunday night.

President Bharrat Jadgeo dissolved Parliament on September 27, which means he must announce the election date before November 14. Jagdeo has served two terms and is not eleibgile to run again for the presidency.

The PPP's candidate is Donald Ramotar who told supporters his agenda for the country includes cheap and reliable electricity through hydropower, solar energy and wind power; a harbour to accommodate larger ships; and continued emphasis on education and health.

In his address, Jagdeo defended his stewardship stating that his government took Guyana from a bankrupt country and made it the most dynamic vibrant economy in the Caribbean.

“Today we have the highest level of international reserves ever. We spent the most that we have ever done on education, healthcare and housing, on water and electricity, because these are important to our people,” he said.

“We have done so and at the same time reduced the fiscal deficit,” the president stated. He said further that the interest rates have been reduced significantly due to the policies of the government.
