Robocop stays in jail; will be back Oct. 4 on murder charge

Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis will remain in custody until his next court hearing on October 4, on a murder charge.

Alexis appeared before Chaguanas Magistrate Gillian Scotland Tuesday, who read the charge laid by Sergeant Anderson Parriman.

According to the charge, on October 7 2008, Alexis and others murdered Vincent Emmanuel Simmons at Enterprise, Chaguanas.

At the hearing, the lawyer representing Alexis claimed that Alexis was entitled to his personal property, including cash and a cellphone, during his early detention because he was not charged with any offence at the time. He also claimed that the authorities have not returned a luxury vehicle to Alexis. It was seized at the time of the arrest.

The magistrate suggested that a complaint about the matter should be filed with the Police Complaints Authority.
