No murders since emergency declared: Ag. CoP

Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams confirmed on Tuesday that there have been no murders since the government declared a limited State of Emergency in parts of Trinidad & Tobago.

Williams made the comments to reporters at a media briefing at which he also announced that police have seized 6 firearms and 825 rounds of ammunition.

"All these firearms and ammunition would have been recovered in those targeted areas that we identified previously," Williams said.

"We continue to heighten our operations throughout Trinidad and Tobago with a clear focus of ensuring that firearms are removed from persons who possess them illegally, homicides are driven down to the point that society can feel a level of comfort, and we will be targeting the recovery of drugs from all over Trinidad and Tobago."

Williams confirmed that Police Stations across the country would have permits for distribution to citizens who qualify for them.

"We have revisited the distribution of those permits, and put systems in place to ensure that every single police station as of midday Tuesday will have sufficient permits to facilitate persons who will be qualified for accessing those permits.

"And I use that term 'who will be qualified' because permits are not to be provided to all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago," Williams stated.

He also urged citizens with information on crime to pass on what they know by either calling Crimestoppers or their nearest Police Station.
