No apology to Kamla: Rowley

Keith Rowley is not going to apologise to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Attorney General Anand Ramlogana demanded an apology from the Opposition leader for suggesting that Persad-Bissessar was responsible for appointing a relative to the Integrity commission.

In demanding an apology, Ramlogan pointed out that Persad-Bissessar was not the one who made the recommendations for appointments toi the Integrity commission and therefore Rowley wass out of line and should apologise for his error.

"The Attorney General is a buffoon. That is all I have to say on his tirade," Rowley responded when media asked him if he would apologise.

He suggested that Ramlogan was too hasty and did not pay attention to what was actually said.

He said he told the media that the only issue was when the appointment was made.

He said he said he did not have the facts of the date of the appointment of Dr Ann-Marie Bissessar, who is the Prime Minister's husband's cousin, but that if she was appointed before Persad-Bissessar was in the "consultative position" of Opposition Leader or Prime Minister, one could not hold the Prime Minister responsible in any way.

He also acknowledged that he did say that if Persad-Bissessar held the position of Opposition Leader at the time of the appointment then she would have been consulted by the President on Dr Bissessar's nomination and would have had the opportunity to identify her as a cousin-in-law.

"Where in all of that is there any need for me to apologise to anybody?" Rowley asked. Rowley said he was not casting aspersions on anyone. "There is need for clarification," he said.
