Letter: UNC women fully support PM Kamla's security move

The Women's Arm of the United National Congress Would like to publicly commend Prime Minister Hon Kamla Persad Bissessar for taking a firm stand against crime and criminal activity by calling a Limited State of Emergency in Trinidad and Tobago.

The nation is aware that recommendations for this type of actions had been made before and that the previous administration failed to implement it. A government must be serious about its crime fighting mechanisms. Criminals must be afraid, not law-abiding citizens.

We urge all citizens to listen to the up-dates and to comply and co-operate so that the operations of the security forces can be optimized.

While this limited state of emergency will cause some inconvenience to law-abiding citizens in the specified areas, we urge citizens to weigh the inconvenience of self-imposed curfews we feel forced into while criminals walk free, the inconvenience of being held up at gun point, the inconvenience of murders, rapes, robberies and gang violence.

Let us all, as citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, stand with the government to restore this nation to glory and rid our nation of the high price of crime.

Khadijah Ameen |Chairwoman, United National Congress Women’s Arm
