Police continue to quiz "highly dangerous" terror suspect

Police are continuing to interrogate a man who has been described as a "highly-trained military operative and gun expert". The man used to work for the Niagara Regional Police Force in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Police sources say the the 68-year-old man, who was a detective in Canada, has lived in Trinidad for the past six years and is related to a senior police officer. He was born in Trinidad and received training from British Army.

Police suspect the man has been involved in terrorism activity and illegal arms dealing.

They raided his home at Arima this week and found thousands of rounds of ammunition, highly classified documents and several guns. Police believe that the illegal ammunition was smuggled into T&T through the car parts by the man who runs a small car import business.

They also found the police uniform worn by senior officers of the Trinidad and Tobago police service. Police believe that the man used it to gain access to classified information and also to escape police suspicion.

They describe the man as "highly dangerous".
