Obesity has its privileges; no seat belt for fat man

No seat belt for fatman Cozier
A magistrate has dismissed a case against a 400-pound man who argued that the reason he was not wearing a seat belt while driving was that the seat belt could not fit on him.

Barry Cozier went to court to fight a ticket he received on April 1 for not wearing a seat belt. He explained to senior magistrate Siemungal Ramsaran Wednesday that he didn't set out to break the law but his physical state was to blame.

The magistrate asked Cozier to prove it by bringing his car outside the court and trying to attach the belt. Cozier showed that he just could not get the belt around his huge stomach.

The magistrate was satisfied so he discharged the man, who will now have to apply to the transportation authorities for an exemption certificate stating that he is unable to wear his seat belt.

The magistrate also offered to provide a written record that Cozier could not wear the seat belt due to his obesity.

For the record, Cozier's waist is 64 inches. That's more than five feet!
