Letter: Undermining authority

Our leader of the Opposition seems to run with the hares and hunt with the hounds.

His recent public censure of the CoP and threats to report him to the PSC for dereliction of duty resulted in a severe diminishing of that official’s professional standing, made worse by the empty placating promise of writing to FIFA.

Mr. Rowley should know that the Integrity Commission as well as the DPP do not act until reports are made or evidence manifests publicly to justify investigation.

The AG’s proposed action against the eTeck’s Board is calculated to ventilate the circumstances of the unaccountable loss of TT M$30 which occurred quietly under the PNM watch without so much as a hiccup.

The suspiciously named “Bamboo” company virtually vanished in the mist with all the funds from a very co-operative State Board which functioned under the virtual dictatorship of a local PNM strongman of mega fame and confidence who presided over vast sums of our wealth against the repeated protests of UNC opposition voices, much as Canadian Calder Hart did across boards.

Dr. Rowley is being flagrantly disingenuous with his protests.

Mr. Imbert’s observations here are quite puzzling since he usually appeared familiar with legal niceties and was expected to grasp the direction of the wind easily. Further his observations that “…the actions of the AG would make current members of State boards uneasy” is hopefully on the mark as State Board Members stand in need of memorizing the riot act.

The civil action, as was the intention in the case of AG Richardson’s action against O’Halloran, should produce interesting revelations and a forensic investigation may reveal the course of the disappearing Bamboo TT M$30 and whether any of it was re-routed back to TT private citizen’s accounts.

Unless Messrs Rowley and Imbert have an interest in protecting miscreants, they should welcome the AG’s action and promise of more to follow.

Their protests more appear to be undermining our security and law than having any negative effect on the IC or DPP who were trammeled by the PNM inertia of yesteryear.

MFRahman.
