CONCACAF re-elects Jack unopposed for 6th consecutive term as president

Jack Warner will stand unopposed for a sixth term as CONCACAF President.

The announcement was made in New York Thursday at the football confederation's headquarters.

The senior Trinidad and Tobago cabinet minister and chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) is also one of the vice-presidents of FIFA. He will be formally re-elected during the XXVII CONCACAF Congress on May 3, 2011, in Miami.

Commenting on his re-election Warner said, "I am honoured by the trust placed in me by our members." He thanked the football body for "allowing me to continue working on their behalf."

Warner was also recently re-elected as the president of the Caribbean Football Union.

He added: “I remain honoured by all of this and I remain humble at the end of the day. While it is Jack Warner who has been re-elected, I repeat that it is the work of an entire team, an entire organisation that is responsible for our achievements and our day-to-day operations.

"I remain committed to the various tasks at hand and I will maintain my drive toward seeing us move forward in spite of whatever obstacles we may face along the way."

Warner was first elected to lead CONCACAF in 1990 and has been a member of the FIFA Executive Committee since 1983. He first became secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation in 1973 and President of the CFU in 1990.

Under his leadership, new competitions have been created, while others were overhauled and improved. One of his goals remains wanting to see every member of CONCACAF achieving sustained improvement in all facets of football.

Others nominated without opposition for positions on the CONCACAF Executive Committee are Lisle Austin of Barbados [vice president - Caribbean Zone], Mexican Football Federation president Justino Compean [vice president - North Zone] and Ariel Alvarado of Panama [member - Central American Zone].
