The Congress of the People (COP) on Wednesday sent its "warmest congratulations" Manohar Ramsaran on his appointment as Administrative Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.
Ramsaran is a former Mp for Chaguaanas and was Sports Minister in the Panday UNC administration. He left the United National Congress (UNC) in 2007, joined the COP and lost his seat to Jack Warner in the 2007 general election.
In a media release, COP noted Ramsaran's "long and laudable record in sports", especially in the field of cricket.
"He has distinguished himself as one of our country's most prolific and dynamic Sports Ministers in any Cabinet since Independence.
"Mr. Ramsaran's timely intervention in the local cricket fraternity will serve as an additional catalyst to our young people to move swiftly into sports and away from undesirable activities," COP said.
"His academic training, human relations skills and practical knowledge of the game equip him well," the party added.
COP said it is certain that Ramsaran will be able to add another dimension to the game of cricket "that will provide the necessary impetus and motivation to give Trinidad and Tobago a positive edge in the upcoming cricketing series, and indeed to provide much-needed support to the West Indies Cricket team in the future."
