The Trinidad campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) has postponed the start of its Certificate in Journalism program from January to September 2011, with the new deadline for applications set for March 2011.
A media release from the St Augustine campus said many applicants had complained about the January 2011 start date for the one-year, full-time program.
When the university announced the program earlier this year it said the Certificate in Journalism is designed "for beginners and for practising journalists who want to be prepared to perform more effectively in a 21st century media environment."
=The release quoted Program coordinator, Patricia Worrell as saying the university received "numerous phone calls and e-mail messages from prospective students, and we realised that many were telling us how difficult it would be to make the necessary arrangements in time."
The new start date will coincide with most other full-time programs offered by the University of the West Indies.
Worrell said the extra time will also allow the university to put technological and administrative provisions in place, to ensure that all new students receive optimal support.

"It is our intention that this programme give students every opportunity to succeed, and to experience optimal personal development," Worrell said.
