Minister for Tobago Development Vernella Alleyne-Toppin said Thursday she is deeply concerned about crime in Tobago. However she added that the police and the government have assured her that they are doing everything to deal with the problem.
The minister was speaking at a media conference following the weekly cabinet meeting which was held at the Rovanel's Hotel in Tobago.
"We are indeed sorry that this scourge is becoming so apparent in Tobago, a place where we use to have so much peace," she said. Alleyne-Toppin said police must be congratulated for the "almost 100 per cent" crime detection rate in the island.
She was confident that things will get better. "We coming into a situation of extreme criminal activity and we are moving towards reducing all of that criminal activity," she said.
The minister noted that overall there has been a decrease inc rime but admitted that "every now and then we have spikes". She called for all hands to be on deck in all neighbourhoods in the fight against crime.
