SPORTS: Sarwan, Ramdin in Windies squad to prepare for 2011 World Cup

West Indies on Tuesday named their 30-man preliminary squad for the 2011 World Cup which takes place in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from February 19-April 2.

Veteran batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin have been included.

The pair missed the recent tour of Sri Lanka because of injury but will be fit for the tournament on the subcontinent, which begins on Feb. 19.

Legspinners Devendra Bishoo and Anthony Martin, who impressed in a domestic one-day tournament in October, were also included but pace bowlers Fidel Edwards and Jerome Taylor have not recovered from injuries in time.

Offspinner Shane Shillingford was picked in the squad, which must be trimmed to 15, but is in doubt after being suspended by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday for having an illegal bowling action.

Young fast bowler Jason Holder and batsman Jonathan Carter made the squad, along with two other Barbadian players: allrounder Ryan Hinds and paceman Tino Best.

The provisional squad must be trimmed next month to 15 players for the six-week tournament.
