Police arrested 70 people during raids in Laventille early Wednesday morning involving 300 police and soldiers.
"We have recovered ammunition and some drugs...without anybody getting hurt," Police commissioner Dwayne Gibbs told reporters. Officers seized 105 rounds of assorted ammunition, a Luger pistol, a large quantity of marijuana, army camouflage kits, bulletproof vests and police apparel.
Gibbs said police would carry out similar exercises in other areas as part of the country in the drive to restore law and order in the country.
"This is part of our take-back-the-community-peace. We are going to continue to do this at different areas, different locations, different hotspots throughout Trinidad and this will complement our efforts to actually lead into crime prevention," Gibbs said.
He promised that police would not relent in their effort as they make every attempt to sustain such exercises, noting that it's part of an ongoing effort to weed out criminal elements bent on disrupting the peace and stability in the country.
