A report on the online news service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (cbc.ca) Friday stated that the economy created 15,000 new positions in November, citing figures from Statistics Canada.
The report says the unemployment rate fell to 7.6 per cent, the first time it has been so low in eight months. Since the spring it has been the eight per cent range.
However, the agency noted a significant decline in the number of youths in the labour market. Since November the number of young people looking for work has grown by 318,000, or 1.9 per cent.
Statistics Canada said over the past year, part-time employment has grown by four per cent, or 127,000 jobs, a faster pace than the 1.4 per cent growth in full-time positions, or 192,000 full-time jobs.
The job gains in November were in health care and social assistance, retail and wholesale trade, and accommodation and food services. This compensated for declines in manufacturing as well as in finance, insurance, real estate and leasing, the agency reported.
