Ganga Singh and the CEO of the Environmental Management Agency, Joth Singh, gave the assurance following a tour of Fairways in Maraval where 3esidents have complained that raw sewage was flowing into the Maraval river, which flows into the Maraval reservoir.
On Wednesday Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner visited the area and expressed concern about the leak. Warner was touring the area with the Chairman of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, Anthony Sammy.
Sammy told reporters the regional corporation does not have the resources to deal with the problem. he said the corporation advised WASA about of the problem "a couple of months ago.”
Sammy complained that WASA had refused to help although the matter was reported to the authority many times over the past few years.
Warner said: “This is serious. This can cause an epidemic. I am surprised that no one has fixed this before.” He added: “Something has to be done. You can’t have raw sewage going into a reservoir just so.”
He promised that he would ask Public Utilities Minister Emmanuel George to deal with the problem as a matter of urgency.
