UNC backs PM Kamla, calls on Rowley to distance himself and PNM from Manning

The United National Congress (UNC) on Wednesday expressed its support its political leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar who went to parliament earlier in the day to demonstrate her commitment to honesty and integrity in public life.

The party was responding to Persad-Bissessar's presentation in the House of representatives in which she refuted all allegations made against her by her predecessor Patrick Manning about her private home in South Trinidad.

In a media release, the acting CEO of the party also called on Patrick Manning to apologise to the Persad-Bissessar and to the nation for what it said was "a wilful attempt to mislead the national community."

Dr Andy Ali stated, "Mr. Manning’s attack on the Prime Minister is nothing more than a smoke screen and a diversionary tactic to draw public attention away from the real issue at hand; the illegal interception of communication which was conducted under the Manning Regime."

Ali also called on the Leader of the Opposition to condemn Manning and and to  distance himself and his party from Manning’s attack on the Prime Minister.

"The Prime Minister’s presentation in Parliament satisfies the documentary evidence Dr. Rowley was seeking in order to withdraw his support from the statements made by the Member of San Fernando East," Ali said.

He added, "Today’s attempt to bring Mr. Manning before the Privileges Committee receives the backing and support of the United National Congress as we stand in defence of our beloved Political Leader and Prime Minister."
