Petrotrin audit coming as top priority: Energy Minister

Past and present: Energy Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan meets Errol Mahabir, a former energy minister who was also the MP for San Fernando West, the constituency which Seepaersad-Bachan now represents

Energy Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said Monday a forensic audit of state-owned Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Petrotrin) is coming.

She said it is in her list of priorities.

The minister made the statement at a thanksgiving service and made it clear that the audit promised during the election campaign is necessary.

She said the audit will include the controversial gas optimisation project and the gas-to-liquids project. Seepersad-Bachan said Petrotrin’s estimated losses have been put at about $18 billion.

She said she wants to study a status report on the company’s debt before making any decision on remedial procedures.
