PNM Chairman and Minister of Energy, Conrad Enil, told The Guardian that though his party has discussed constitutional reform, changing the electoral system to one of proportional representation is not on the agenda.
“Our experience is, in societies like ours it (proportional representation) seeks to divide the society, rather than move the society forward,” Enill said.

Enil said that the American republican system of government was also considered, but rejected due to the flaws the US themselves are trying to address. A Cabinet-based executive, along with an independent judiciary, legislative arm, and executive is the preferred model, he said.
Enil also told the Guardian his government is set to embark on a education campaign to enlighten the people of his government's accomplishments towards the Vision 2020 mandate. The Chairman denied this public education campaign was related to a broader partisan strategy for an upcoming local elections call. Local elections are constitutionally due in 2010.

Don't try to hoodwink people Mr. Enil, this is not about educating people, this is solely about brainwashing people into believing taht the PNM regime is about developing the people, this is the start, it would be followed by the election hand outs (scraps of the table) and then the date would be announced. I again have to say that I wish that enough of our voters are wise enough to see through this type of politics. PR does not favour the PNM because they are aware that if this system is used they could never be the government of this country, ever!!!. But on the issue of not wanting to use a system that has failed in other countries, this too is but nonsense or rather the duplicity of this corrupt regimes, because they have just used their majority (minority) to pass legislation to scrap the Customs and Excise and BIR to form the new TTRA. So what id this dotishness about not wanting to use systems that haved failed in other countries, Mr. Enil, please don't try to fool anyone - oh shit he may very well fool the blind loyalists, who they fooled when they told them that if another party were to get into government, they would take away CEPEP and URP, as if this really contributes to the development of anyone.
