UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar will mail a letter of confidence signed by 8 opposition MPs to President Maxwell Richards this week, she told the Trinidad Express.
After Dr. Tim Gopeesingh announced he would support Persad-Bissessar from his medical practice this past Saturday, the new UNC leader crossed the critical mass of support within opposition benches necessary to urge the president to remove her predecessor, Basdeo Panday, from the post of Leader of the Opposition.
Persad-Bissessar told the Express that she would not send the letter until she had a chance to discuss it with the Opposition MPs, national executive, and the parliamentary caucus. Meetings of all three groups are scheduled for Tuesday.
All opposition MPs, including Panday and his remaining supporters, are invited to attend Tuesday's meeting.
