Kamla tells Manning to call an election now

United National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has challenged Prime Minister Patrick Manning to call an election now.

Speaking at the launch of her party's "meet the Constituencies Tour" Monday night she said the UNC is ready.

She added that top members of the national executive are working on a proposal for strengthening and uniting the UNC in preparation for taking over as the next government of Trinidad and Tobago.

She also said the UNC would seek unity with other groups and parties that are opposed to the People's National Movement (PNM).

Persad-Bissessar accused Prime Minister Patrick Manning of squandering billions of dollars while doing little to improve the living standards and quality of life for citizens.

She said an example is the $2 million national flag that Sport Minister Gary Hunt first staunchly defended and on Sunday told the nation it was a mistake.

$2M flag will continue to fly; "error" no big thing: Manning"

I saw Minister Gary Hunt...apologising for the $2 million flag…Mr Hunt, that is not good enough. The entire government needs to apologise and you need to call an election now so that we can move you out of office now,” she said.
