The Chairman of UNC's membership committee has promised that an updated preliminary list of eligible voters will ready by Christmas eve. And Kelvin Ramnath says members would have until January 6, 2010 to lodge complaints.
Ramnath told the Trinidad Guardian he is not involved in the minute by minute operations in preparing the list but promised to investigate all complaints.
"I’m in charge of the committee that reviews applications and not a single application has been rejected. Where there are queries we’ve told people to go back and check the situation," he told the Guardian.
"It’s a difficult job especially when people try at the last minute to get their names on the list and some are supported by various candidates and MPs. But we’re following the EBC’s procedures," Ramnath said.
He said except for one isolated incident this week the process has been moving smoothly. He confirmed that the present list comprises 34,500 and he expects another 5,000 membership applications by the close of registrations on Friday.
All constituencies would have the preliminary voters list by January 2, 2010 and anyone can lodge a complaint until January 6.
Nomination day is January 11.
