Wade Madray is Carnival King; new Queen is Peola Marchan

Wade Madray has been crowned King with “Quars Al Sahraa - Desert Sting”, a large grotesque scorpion painted black and orange and adorned with glowing red venom and gold.

Peola Marchan is Queen with “Zamara, Mirage of the Oasis”, a taj-like depiction of an illusion of a seductive enchantress, amid the minarets of a shining fabled city.

The results are a repeat of 2011 results when both Madray and Marchan were crowned — Madray won that year with “Pacific Tsunami” while Marchan won with “D Jewelled Chandelier”. Marchan has now won the crown three times, also winning in 2007 with “The Incandescence of Beatrice Has Brought Me Thence”.

The monarchs will be on stage Sunday night at the Dimanche Gras show.
