Jones P. Madeira is Newsday's New Editor in Chief

JYOTI extends congratulations to a friend and colleague, Jones P. Madeira, on his appointment as Editor-in-Chief at Newsday. The Board of Daily News Ltd, the publishers of the paper, announced that the appointment is effective from March 10, 2014.

He fills the vacancy left by the late Therese Mills, who served as Newsday’s Chairman/CEO and Editor in Chief. She died on January 1, 2014 after a career in journalism spanning 68 years.

Madeira has worked in media and communication for 45 years, starting as a radio and television broadcaster. He also worked in print journalism and has served as the Editor in Chief of the Trinidad Publishing Co Ltd.

His most recent corporate communication assignment has been as the Court and Protocol Manager of the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago.
