Jack mourns Karl as 'a guding light and true role model'

Statement from the Independent Liberal Party (ILP)
The Independent Liberal Party joins the national community and the region in mourning the loss of one of our most treasured sons, Karl Hudson-Phillips QC.

Mr Hudson-Phillips was one of the region’s most eminent and visionary legal minds and his contributions to the local, regional and international jurisprudence are beyond measure. Mr Hudson-Phillips’ mark is not left just in his pleadings in court but in the work of hundreds of lawyers who tutored under his hand and by studying his work.

At the domestic level, Mr Hudson-Phillips contributed indelibly to the shaping of the course of this country’s development and our political history. He demonstrated the highest level of statesmanship and integrity during his time on the political front by resigning from the PNM in 1973 when he could no longer work with the then political leader. At that time he was the sitting Attorney General.

He again put principle before power and personal gain when he stepped back from the leadership of the NAR to allow ANR Robinson to become the Prime Minister in 1986.

What we have lost is leader, a guiding light and true role model.

May his soul rest in peace.

Respectfully Submitted,
Jack Warner | Political Leader
