Roget says don't blame OWTU

Nobody has accused anyone of sabotage at Petrotrin but the President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) Ancel Roget is pointing fingers at the company and saying don't blame workers.

The Guardian newspaper quoted Roget as saying that the company has reduced security levels at most of Petrotrin’s marine and land installations making it easy for "pilferers, saboteurs and criminals" to enter the company's pemises.

He claimed that security and patrols had been reduced by more than 80 per cent over the past few years, the paper reported.

"All they want to do is reduce cost. Thieves are now entering the oil fields, removing flow lines and allowing valuable crude oil to spill into the water courses,” the Guardian quoted Roget as saying. Petrotrin should not blame workers for any possible acts of sabotage, Roget said.

Whatever happened, he stated, was the result of poor management. "We don’t know anything about sabotage," he declared.

"They need to rehire more security and have frequent patrols as they did in the past,” Roget said.
