PM sends condolences on passing of 2 distinguished citizens

From the Office of the Prime Minister:

It is with profound sadness that the Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, learned of the recent passing of two (2) distinguished citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, Mrs. Sheilah Solomon and Mr. Stanley Marshall. Both have distinguished themselves through their respective contributions to culture and national development.

Mrs. Sheilah Solomon, who was a social activist for many years, founded the Trinidad and Tobago Citizens Agenda Network (TTCAN) in an effort to organize meaningful representation for the voiceless. She was also this country's representative for UNESCO.

The Prime Minister is mindful that during Mrs. Solomon's many years of activism, her strength of character, courage, and dedication contributed significantly to the strengthening of local government services and to promoting constitutional change. One of her passions was her support of initiatives to improve the status and condition of women and girls worldwide and her life's work was of immense value to the development of Trinidad and Tobago.

Veteran character actor Stanley Marshall of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop (TTW) will be fondly remembered for his long-standing contribution to culture, theatre, and the arts. His commitment to his craft was outstanding and serves as an inspiration to all. He was a dedicated mentor to many aspiring actors who gravitated towards him for guidance and direction. He will also be remembered for his distinguished performances in several well-known plays.

To the families, colleagues, and friends of these two outstanding citizens, the Prime Minister extends her sincere condolences and prayerful support. May they rest in peace.
