Ghany moves to top media post at Guardian

UWI Senior Lecturer Dr Hamid Ghany is the new Deputy Managing Director/Managing Editor of Guardian Media Ltd (GML).

He has been granted no-pay leave from his post at the Department of Social Sciences at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine to take up the two-year appointment, beginning September 1.

The Guardian's managing director Gabriel Faria advised staff of Ghany's new role in a memo.

"Dr Ghany will focus on leveraging the strength of the company to provide our audiences with the most comprehensive multi-dimensional coverage of news and current affairs," the memo stated.

"This will be achieved by empowering the respective heads of news and current affairs in each division and developing a cohesive strategy to implement the effective convergence of our content across our platforms of TV, radio, print and digital,” Faria added.

Ghany is a well known media commentator on the Guardian Media's CNC3 television service and has often been host of its morning program. He also writes a regular column for the Guardian newspaper.

JYOTI extends our congratulations to Dr Ghany.
