Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Thursday received the final Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas from José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS).
Insulza hand over the report during the 34th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Port-of-Spain.
The Heads of State and Government of the Hemisphere commissioned the report at the Sixth Summit of the Americas, held in April 2012 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the complex nature of the Hemisphere’s drug problem and said the the comprehensive findings would be used to develop a multifaceted and flexible approach to resolving an issue challenging many countries in the Hemisphere.
The Prime Minister stated that she “looks forward to the continued cooperation of the General Secretariat of the OAS on this important issue”.
