UNC goes to Chaguanas West for MNF

The United National Congress will hold its Monday Night Forum (MNF) Monday evening in Felicity. The venue is the corner of Canadee and Pierre Roads, which is in the constituency of Chaguanas West.

It's the first time that the party is meeting in the constituency since Jack Warner resigned as the MP in April this year.

The by-election for the seat will be held on July 29. So far no party has nominated a candidate for the election although Warner has said he is confident he would get his party's nomination. The seat is one of the safest for the UNC and was held by Warner since 2007 when he defeated the Congress of the People candidate Manohar Ramsarran.

The party has not made any commitment except to say that all eligible candidates would be screened. Nomination day for the election is July 8th although this has not been officially declared.

Warner has been actively campaigning for re-election from the day he resigned. He is doing walkabouts Monday and will also hold a cottage meeting at the same time that his party is meeting in Felicity.

Monday's meeting begins at 7:00 pm and the key speaker would be political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar. A party source has told JYOTI she would focus on important national issues in her speech.
