Roget calls for workers' march to OPM July 5

Roget and other trade unions march in Fyzabad Wednesday
Ancel Roget called on workers of Trinidad and Tobago to march on the office of the Prime Minister on July 5.

Speaking at Labour day celebrations in Fyzabad Wednesday, the president general of the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) said, "The time for action is now."

The trade union leaders added, "In our thousands we will show that the power of the people is greater than the people in power!... We will be going straight to the head of the Government.”

Roget, who has been saying on public platforms that he is determined to bring down the government, accused the government of an anti-worker agenda. He said with the exception of a few "sell-out trade unionists" the government does not have any support from workers.

Roget also accused the government of victimising "PNM people" and blamed Labour Minister Errol McLeod for turning his back on workers. "Employers are taking out injunctions left, right and centre against workers and trade unions, while there is a deafening silence from the Minister of Labour, himself a prominent former labour leader,” he said.

Roget repeated his anti-government mantra that the PP is "the most corrupt government" ever and said corruption is breeding crime.
