The Express newspaper reported Wednesday that former prime minister Patrick Manning has applied for more leave from the Parliament.
Manning has been on medical leave since suffering a stroke at his home in January 2012. So far he has been granted five extensions.

Parliament has been adjourned to a date to be fixed. Manning's seat is not at risk even if he does not not get additional leave.
Under parliamentary rules a member has to miss six consecutive sittings in a session of the House of Representatives before the Speaker can declare the seat vacant.
The present session ends in a few weeks and it is unlikely that there would be six sittings before the House is prorogued.
