Eight persons who worked at the T&T consulate in New York until their dismissal for failing an exam are going to court, the Guardian newspaper reported Tuesday.
Susan Butcher-David told the paper the former employees, who were fired in July last year, are seeking compensation from the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Guardian said the Industrial Court would hear the matter in October. The Oilfields Workers Trade Union is representing the workers.

Butcher-David said some of the former workers have no income and are facing eviction and court appearances for failing to pay rent. She also told the Guardian at least two of them "have no status at all; they don’t have any green card; they don’t have any US citizenship."
JYOTI has confirmed that some of the workers were hired by the previous administration without proper immigration documentation. The source who spoke to us on condition of anonymity added that the authorities violated procedure in making appointments without the relevant documentation.
