Speaking at a media briefing following bilateral talks at the Diplomatic Centre, Xi spoke about the 39 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and said the 40th anniversary would be a significant event to celebrate.
He described the talks with the Trinidad and Tobago delegation as "warm and friendly" and announced to the local and international media that he has invited Persad-Bissessar to make an official visit to China. He said he hopes she could visit during this year.
Xi said he looks forward to continuing relations with Trinidad and Tobago and the CARICOM region, noting that the development of China’s relationship with T&T remains very important.
He said he is looking forward to joint cooperation for "our mutual development" in traditional areas such as infrastructure, energy and new areas such as agriculture and telecommuncations.
Xi also said he hopes both countries can work together to ensure economic cooperation and investment. And he revealed that China is providing US$250M for the Couva Children’s hospital and a stadium.

The Chinese leader also highlighted the unique cultures of the two countries and said he would like to see expanded cultural exchanges.
"We also believe both of us are developing states...with similar views and we will promote a joint active role on international affairs." Xi said there is a need for the two states to work together for reform of international institutions like UN. He said he would like to see cooperation between China and T&T in international fora on the very important issue of climate change.
Xi is meeting Sunday with Caricom leaders. He said that would help develop a strategic partnership with the Caribbean including T&T. "China is ready to work with CARICOM," he said.
