St Joseph MP Herbert Volney celebrate with his PL, Kamla Persad-Bissessar |
However when Volney showed up at Monday's UNC MNF in Tunapuna it was clear that he was still welcome as a member of the UNC with no one - especially the PM - having an issue with him.
Voleney sat in the front row of the audience next to UNC Deputy Leader Roodal Moonilal. And when the Prime Minister arrived, she broke from the conventional style of the meetings and invited all cabinet members - and Volney - to join her on stage as they sang and danced.
Persad-Bissessar held Volney's hands as the DJ played Celine Dion’s “I Am Alive”, which has become the PM's theme song at these gatherings.
Volney said he wanted to attend because Moonilal invited him and also because he wanted to show solidarity with his party, which he said is under constant attack by the opposition PNM.
He said there is no justification for the opposition filing another no confidence motion. "I felt that I should come back and show that the Government has achieved a lot...and lend support to the Prime Minister," he told reporters.
