Today we celebrate the universal day reserved for honouring our mother and mother figures.
It is our mother who brought us into this world, and it is she and the other mother figures who nurtured and guided us through all these years. We would not be what and where we are today were it not for these women and it is their influence on our lives that will also help to shape our futures.
We must always remember the patience, commitment and sacrifice of our mothers in ensuring that we were, and are, safe, healthy, filled with self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth, instilled with manners and values and always feeling loved.
Some of us may have been raised by single mothers for whom the struggle may have been doubly trying and who tried more than twice as hard.
Today, I reflect on the fact that all I have achieved and all I have become - and hope to be - I owe to my mother and the mothers of the communities where I grew up - Longdenville and Todds Road; and still I am humbled by their tenacity and devotion to their children.
Indeed the success of our communities is predicated on the selfless resolve and determination of our mothers whose mission has been to ensure that we were raised right and that we accomplish.
Today, I wish to thank all mothers for their contribution, not only to our personal development , but to national development and progress. We would be nothing without you!
On this special day let us recommit ourselves to making our mothers happy and proud.
