Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar sends condolences to the Holy Ghost Fathers

Prime Minister has extended her condolences to the Holy Ghost Fathers, the Lai Fook, Jay Williams, and Huggins-Chan families on the passing of Fr. Arthur Lai Fook, CSSP, who died on April 19, 2013.

In a media release, the Prime Minister said that she joins thousands of other citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and elsewhere who celebrate the outstanding contribution of a man who, for over 65 years had been a priest, mentor, leader, friend, and teacher. “His greatness lay in the humble conduct of his exceedingly long and productive life,” she said.

Fr. Lai Fook was buried at the Laperouse Cemetery Thursday, following a service at the St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church at which his life was celebrated.

The Archbishop of Port of Spain, Joseph Harris, joined other members of the clergy, Religious Sisters, family, friends, and students from both St. Mary’s and Fatima Colleges. A Guard of Honour of Scouts welcomed his casket as it made its way to the altar for the funeral service.

Fr. Lai Fook, who was well known over decades for his genius at mathematics, was also a willing handyman who loved carpentry and who selflessly assisted all those in need of assistance in whatever way he could.

The Prime Minister also extended thanks to all the sisters at Lourdes House who cared for Fr. Lai Fook in his later years.

“May he rest in peace and reap the eternal rewards of his incredible stewardship. He was a citizen of classic caliber who profoundly loved his country. I am gratified that his enduring influence in the lives of so many citizens will enhance the quality and spirituality of all our lives," she said.
