PM Kamla Persad-Bissessasr has a final word with Errol Mc Leod before she left for Canada Tuesday |
And she told reporters he has confidence in her former National Security Minister, Jack Warner, who resigned from cabinet on Sunday and then quit as chairman of the United National Congress one day later.
Reporters asked whether she expects a negative reaction from the Chaguanas West MP to which she replied that she expects Warner to do the right thing.
They also wanted a reaction from the Prime Minister about calls for Warner's reinstatement from members of his constituency. She said people are "hurting" because of Warner's departure.
“Not only in his constituency, there are people everywhere, he was chairman of our party, he served the party well and there are many people who are hurt about what has happened. But Mr Warner took the high ground in the best Westminster tradition and I think we give him credit for that,” she said.
Warner plans to report to his constituents at a meeting in Charlieville on Thursday.
Persad-Bissesssar declined a comment on rumours that he might resign as the MP. “I can’t foresee the future so we will have to wait. I would not speculate," she said.
