Jack vs Rowley in Parliament Friday

Jack Warner will have his last political battle in Parliament on Friday, facing off against Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley who has filed a private motion against Warner.

Warner told supporters in Felicity he is quitting as the MP for Chaguanas West effective at midnight Frdiay, which means he would be able to go to the Parliament to defend himself against Rowley's motion.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar won't be there; she's in Canada on an official visit that ends Friday. However, House Leader Roodal Moonilal has said members of the People's Partnership would support Warner.

The motion on the Order Paper states:

“Whereas the private business activities of the Minister of National Security have been the subject of widespread adverse commentary, censure and inferences, both locally and internationally which are in conflict with his position as a minister of Government;
and whereas the actions and conduct of the Minister of National Security have been the subject of widespread adverse commentary, censure and inferences, both locally and internationally; and whereas the Minister of National Security and his business partners have been linked to, or associated with, a number of alleged investigations into alleged misconduct and/or alleged criminal offences, both locally and internationally, which have attracted widespread adverse commentary, censure and inferences, both locally and internationally; and whereas in the face of the overwhelming evidence of his unsuitability as a Minister of Government, the Prime Minister has to date not taken any action with respect to the Minister of National Security: be it resolved that this Honourable House express its disapproval of the failure of the Prime Minister to take appropriate action to protect the image and interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago which are being consistently damaged by the actions and business of the Minister of National Security”.

Warner will be sitting for the first time on the back bench and Labour Minister Errol McLeod, who is acting PM, will sit in the Prime Minister’s chair.
