A senior police officer fingered has sent a pre-action protocol letter to Opposition leader Keith Rowley in which it is claimed that Rowley publicly “falsely and maliciously uttered” uttered comments about Senior Supt. Surajdeen Persad.
The documents claimed that Rowley's comments were calculated to damage and defame Persad’s personal and professional reputation.
Rowley made the offending remarks at a public meeting in relation to Persad's alleged involvement in a matter involving the Security Intelligence Agency (SIA).
Persad is seeking aggravated and exemplary damages and a full and unequivocal retraction and an apology from Rowley. Rowley has 21 days to respond.
