Penny Beckles had some harsh words about the police who were trying to quell riots by Sea Lots residents following the accident in which a woman and her two daughters were killed by a vehicle driven by an off duty police officer.
The Opposition Senator said, "And I looked at what they were wearing. And you saw the helmets and the guards, and when I look at the television I think: the only time I see police officers looking like that is in countries where they have serious war taking place...
"People looking at the television footage and what was transpiring in Sea Lots are probably wondering what is really happening in Trinidad and Tobago."

Several people sent JYOTI pictures to remind Beckles and the PNM of how the police looked under the previous Manning PNM regime, often trying to intimidate citizens during peaceful protests.
What war was taking place in Trinidad, Senator, when police went after citizens as shown in these pictures?
