New president takes office Monday March 18

Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona takes office Monday  March 18 as the fifth President of Trinidad and Tobago. He succeeds Max Richards, who has served two five-year terms.

Carmona, who turns 60 in a few days, was elected unopposed last Friday.

The inauguration takes place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, the same venue where outing president Max Richards was inaugurated for his second term in 2008.

On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wade Mark, who presided over Carmona's election last Friday, will present the president-elect with his Carmona instrument of appointment.

The office of the President is making all the arrangements for the inauguration.
