Military funeral Tuesday for slain police officer

The military funeral of Sgt Hayden Manwaring takes place Tuesday at the Open Bible First Church in San Fernando. 

Manwaring died at the San Fernando General Hospital last week from gunshot injuries received while trying to apprehend a robbery suspect in San Fernando. He was shot with his own gun. His partner, PC Nicholas Phillips, was also injured.

Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams will be among the officials attending the service at the church. 

The internment will take place later at George Village, Tableland, where he was born. He will be laid to rest next to his parents, Pastora and Winston Manwaring, at the Tableland Public Cemetery.

The State is paying the full cost of the funeral, which is the normal protocol when an officer is killed in the line of duty.
